IQ-Station
Hub for low-cost virtual reality
About
The IQ-station community began with virtual reality researchers looking to provide a VR system that could be depolyed to a wider market by integrating existing commercial (and open-source) products into an operating whole.  The advent of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) 3DTV technology in 2007 combined with low-cost camera-based tracking became the catalyst to make good quality VR available at relatively low-cost.

Two early adopters of this technique were the University of California at Davis and the Desert Research Institute in Nevada.  Both sites independently settled on Samsung DLP 3DTV technology combined with OptiTrack position tracking systems from NaturalPoint.
